- Final Results
The morning started off to a slow start.
Questions on whether we run, will anybody be here, will the rain stop? Raceway
park was nice enough to set up a large tent "lucky for us" to huddle under and
decide. The decision was to start setting up the course, which at this time the
rain let up to a light drizzle mist. This gave us favorable time to design a
course and a positive outlook on the weather.
Now will anybody be here? Slowly drivers started to trickle in “hey this might
work”! A total of 43 drivers showed, not great, but enough to put on a safe
event and man all stations with everyone's help. Because of the fowl weather we
started a little later than normal giving anyone who came late a chance to run,
which can be expected on rainy days. By run time the rain had stopped
completely, leaving us with a lot full of water rivers and puddles to manage.
We had a major timing issue with the first few cars, not sure if weather
related or printer related but the timer would not keep running, "Great what
now”. Practice runs for all till we figure it out, lots of them, which actually
worked great, since it helped to dry the course and gave everyone some great wet
weather car control practice. Timer fixed by noon, Alleluia! We did eight timed
runs and then switched to the next group, finishing just after 3pm. At this time
the track is nice and dry, do we go home? Heck no! For everyone who stayed we
gave another thirty minutes per group of run times, a minor tweak to the course,
at minutes wait between your run, gave everyone more than enough fun.
I want to thank all the drivers who braved the drive to Raceway Park. I think
this was harder than the Autocross with many accidents reported and seen by all
of us. And mostly I want to thank the people who helped to get the timer up and
running and putting on a fun and successful event. I know that no one can
complain they did not have enough seat time.
