South Jersey Region SCCA Results 10/12/02
I don't know where to start. It was that kind of day. I was sure it was going to rain all day and it didn't. And it just kept getting better. For the second Subaru/SJR Challenge event the weather was mixed. There was some rain, some sun, and lots of clouds. The 54 drivers each got 8 runs. Some of the runs were in the wet and some were almost dry. The Subaru drivers were seen doing rain dances between runs. At the end of the day the Subies (and some fine driving) won out. Take a look at the PAX results to see who got the Subaru Challenge money -- 1st and 2nd and 5th places were taken by Subaru drivers and 3rd and 4th was won by the same Miata with two drivers. (It's a shame that the car owner got beaten.) It was definitely Subaru weather and a Miata course, but then again, when is it not a great day to have all wheel drive or be driving a Miata? It was the best course I've seen this year and I've only run about 40 different courses in 2002. Excellent course design was by Andre Downey Subaru guy) with a little polishing by Jim Blanton (Miata driver). But it gets better. About noon the Hooter Girls showed up to go for a ride with the hot shots and to help pass out the trophies. Check elsewhere on this site for pictures of the winners receiving their trophies. SJR is going to start having their monthly meetings at the Hooters' in Mapleshade. (See www.sjr-scca.org or www.autox4u.com for details about the next meeting.) And it just kept getting better. The Subaru regional manager, Dan Cassidy, passed out some nice awards to the Subaru drivers who were attending their first Subaru/SJR Challenge event. If you didn't get a chance to meet Dan, he was the announcer for heats 2 and 4 so everyone got a chance to hear his great commentary. My Miata didn't win any money today but at least it took FTD;-)
